Pirate Latitudes

I bought the latest novel by Michael Crichton, Pirate Latitudes last week. This is a full manuscript novel that was discovered after he passed away 2 years ago.

Michael Crichton was the producer of the hit television series, E.R and author of many bestseller books such as Prey, Jurassic Park, Congo, The Andromeda Strain, The Great Train Robbery, Next and The Lost World. Some of these books were adapted into movies such as Jurassic Park and The Lost World.

The image displayed on the left is the U.K paperback cover. The U.S paperback mass market version is also available which I bought.

The story starts in the island of Jamaica under the ruler, Sir James Almont. Jamaica was a remote colony of the English but the area around it was under the Spanish empire. Port Royal, the first scene of the book , there are taverns, grog shops and bawdy houses. Besides these, another source of income of Port Royal is through piracy.

Pirate Latitudes talks about how a merchant ship which also brought the governor's (Sir James)  secretary has discovered a galleon of treasure at an island under the Spanish rule by its captain. And so, Sir James Almont then appointed Captain Hunter to find and loot the galleon of treasure. This begins the adventures of Captain Hunter who embarked on a journey to the island with risks of being attacked or spotted by the Spanish guards. He recruited some people from Port Royal who sailed with him to the island.

I have read more than half way through the book already. I have reached Chapter 27 which is also Part 4 of the book. Follow the adventures of Captain Hunter and his crew to find and loot the treasure and the dangers they faced during the trip to the island.

This is a thrilling book to read. It does not disappoint. Once you started, you will keep on reading it. MPH is currently having 20% discount on this book until 30th June. You will paying RM27.92 instead of RM34.90 for this book now. 30% if you buy it @ MPH online but you will incur the delivery fee of RM7. Borders also offers this book at 20% off if you bought this book together with another book. It's the Borders Buy 1, Get 1 at 20% off offer.

Cheers,
Rogerkoo
